FAQs for Youth

What can I do at the Armory Youth Project (AYP)?

  • You can join sports like basketball, archery tag, and soccer, take part in creative activities like art, creative writing, and music, or get help with homework and mentoring.

Do I have to pay to come to the AYP?

  • Nope! Thanks to the generosity of our sponsors, donors, and grants, all of our programming is free to AYP-registered students in grades 6-12.

How old do I have to be to come to the AYP?

  • Students in grades 6-12 are welcome to come to the AYP. 

What if I need a ride to the AYP? Do you offer transportation?

  • AYP partners with local schools for bus drop-off and uses Manistee County Dial-A-Ride for free transportation to and from the Armory Youth Project. If you need a ride home from the AYP, let us know when you sign in at the front desk and we'll get it set up for you!

Do I have to sign up for programs ahead of time?

  • After completing AYP's one-time student registration, you can sign up for specific programs online or at the Armory Youth Project's office. Some of our programs do require sign-up, but we also offer walk-in programs.

What kind of meals are provided?

  • AYP offers free snacks and hot meals daily, prepared in a state-of-the-art commercial kitchen.

What is the Armory Youth Project (AYP)?

  • AYP is a nonprofit organization dedicated to providing a safe space for students in grades 6-12. It offers programs that focus on educational, emotional, physical, and Christian spiritual development.

What programs are available for my student?

  • AYP provides free year-round, out-of-school programs such as sports, creative writing, music, art, book clubs, and tutoring.

How do I register my student?

  • You can register your student by completing our one-time, new student registration form on our website or stopping by during office hours to complete the form in person. Once your student is registered, they can sign up for any of AYP's programs.

What are "walk-in" programs and do I have to sign up for them?

  • Walk-in programs are programs that do not require a formal sign-up. If you have completed AYP's one-time, new student registration, you're all set! Walk-in programs, such as Open Gym, Open Art Room, Youth Volleyball, or our Youth Horseshoe Clinic, don't require a formal sign-up. Students registered with the AYP are all set to participate in these programs.

Does the Armory provide transportation?

  • AYP partners with local schools for bus drop-off and uses Manistee County Dial-A-Ride for free transportation to and from the Armory Youth Project. 

Is AYP affiliated with any specific church?

  • No, AYP is a standalone nonprofit that partners with multiple local churches but does not have any formal church affiliation. The Armory Youth Project is committed to providing an inclusive and welcoming environment for all members of our community. We do not discriminate on the basis of race, color, national origin, age, disability, sex, gender identity, sexual orientation, religion, or any other characteristic protected by law.
